Galatians 2:11-14.” The false gospel of Fear”.
Fear responses. Describe the person walking in the room, and what fear does in people’s body.
Fear Is Physical
Fear is experienced in your mind, but it triggers a strong physical reaction in your body. As soon as you recognize fear, your amygdala (small organ in the middle of your brain) goes to work. It alerts your nervous system, which sets your body’s fear response into motion. Stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline are released. Your blood pressure and heart rate increase. You start breathing faster. Even your blood flow changes — blood actually flows away from your heart and into your limbs, making it easier for you to start throwing punches, or run for your life. Your body is preparing for fight-or-flight.
Fear Can Make You Foggy
As some parts of your brain are revving up, others are shutting down. When the amygdala senses fear, the cerebral cortex (area of the brain that harnesses reasoning and judgment) becomes impaired — so now it’s difficult to make good decisions or think clearly. As a result, you might scream and throw your hands up when approached by an actor in a haunted house, unable to rationalize that the threat is not real.
What needs to be done when someone’s actions preach a false Gospel, and they start slipping away from Jesus, even drawing others with them, they should be talked to face to face. PPT Matthew 18:15-18.
Therefor Paul confronts Peter, because he had acted hypocritical, Peter was fine eating with the gentiles. Until people he was afraid of came, then Peter changed and wanted to pleas them. He departed from the truth of the gospel. Not only that, Peter lead, all the other Jews astray from God as well, even Barabas.
Paul goes to the core, and askes why Peter is laying a heavy waight to the gentiles, why is he letting others intimidate him, why is he succumbing to fear? It is living out a false gospel and leaving Jesus, not only that it also lead others astray. Peter stood condemned. Paul will have no of this, and exposes Peter, you live like a gentile because you understand your freedom in Christ Jesus and what Jesus did. But when, the Jews from James came, you are acting like a hypocrite because you fear those people. You put a burden on the Gentiles and you don’t explain the whole extend of Jesus work to the Jews.
What does that mean for you and me? What is the most loving thing to do? When people are straying from Jesus? Speaking the truth in love, praying people will listen and come back to Jesus, and change their hypocritical behavior. Why is that important? Well, we see it in the text, it creates division, and hypocatial behavior. How can we lead people astray in the way we act and live,( deny the gospel, and lead others astray). So it is not only preachers and teachers that can do that, examples: gossip, slander, lying, a person people cant trust, stealing, Etc. and I think you can reacal many more beahviors that can casuse people to draw away from Jesus to the gospels that the other things promise… In Peters case, he is afraid, and fear causes him to forget the gospel of Jesus.
What about you and me, when our actions are drawing us away from Jesus, what gospel are we believing instead of the one Paul is defending for the Galatians the gospel of truth? (Share the gospel of Jesus Christ intro to Galatians).
Paul is a great friend to Peter and all the believers he confronts to lead them back to Jesus. It is not that Paul gets to decide what music the play in church, or the couler of the carpet, no much more he is going at the core of what the gospel is, freedom to be in Christ Jesus for all with out a demand to become Jewish, (Or what we could put in here). No, by grace, and faith in Jesus’ life, death, resurrection Jesus’ work, God’s plan, how God showed his love for people, by sending his son to make away for us to be forgiven, adopted, restored, in to fellowship with God, and to live it out so other could see that great joy.
What does fear do?
It can make us do things we don’t want, because we want to avoid what we fear. Fear can lead us to be hypocrits, create a pshdo world by lying, we lose grip on what the world is really like. Fear can paralyse us, to make bad decisions, lead others away from God, = false teaching.
Who or who do you fear? And why?
That is good to know so you can start praying and giving that to God,
Fear death? Why? (Classic but hope in Jesus we don’t need to fear death, because he rose, and the promise is to eb with him,)
What is the gospel of fear? What does it promise? (We can avoid it, start clear of Danger,)
But who are we rightly to fear? According to Jesus? God, - PPT Matthew 10:28
Provobes the beginning of wisdom is fear of the Lord. PPT proverbs 9:10
Fears are gone in light of only fearing God,
Then we are not to be controlled by fear in general or in specifics, - but entrusting us to Jesus work, and Gods power, fearing will not help us live the life God has for us as we saw with Peter, instead we will not do it, what will people think, if I say or do this, will people misunderstand, will the heat me? Ignore me, so so… But if God is for us who can be agist us? As the song said, if the Lord of Heavens armies is on our side then why are we afraid? Why are you afraid of the dark? New things, new places? Unknown, what if sometings goes wrong – it that not when we are exposed, that we need to run to Jesus in prayer, instead of letting fear, take hold, and change us, stop us, make us act like hypocrits, - leading others astray, false teaching, departing from Jesus.
No, let us not do that, and when we do let us love one another and call each other back to Jesus, away from fear and hypocy, back to the true gospel of Jesus Christ that gives freedom from fear, death, sin, shame guilt. – Joy in Christ, work, life, death, his coming back his inteceding for us now. What great Gospel news that Paul and us have, freedom not to conform to culture and norms of the world but to live supernatural lives here in Christ and his strength, to the glory of God and the Good of others, they might see the true good news about Jesus Christ and his glory.
Good fear.
Jesus is the fulfillment of the system of sacrifice, because of Jesus sacrifice we are now made clean, Holy, able to stand in the presents of God, by Jesus, Jesus is the gospel, a personal relation, with God where takes away uncleanliness. And gives access in Jesus.
